Meika: Our experience with the tropical storm sounds about like yours with typhoons in Japan. It rained a ton and it was pretty windy, but not as dramatic as a good thunderstorm. There's just something about thunder and lightning that really add to the feel. Just wind & rain made it feel like a quick afternoon shower (that hung on for several hours). I'm sure if we'd had winds over 60 mph instead of the 30-40 it would've been a different story.

ehoffman: Whenever we cover earthquakes in class I always tell my kids I'd love to experience a massive 9.0 style earthquake, given the conditions that I'm in the middle of an open field when it happens and no one else suffers injury or property damage. So...I guess that's pretty unlikely then. ;-)

I was hoping for a (small) earthquake when I went to San Francisco this summer, but no dice. Midwest weather gets old after a while... if you've seen one snowstorm, you've seen them all. Hope you weathered the storm okay!

I get it. I was pretty excited about the prospect of typhoons in Japan, though all we ever got was a whole lot of rain. It was never even as dramatic as a midwest thunderstorm (I think that's actually a good thing).
